The Message in the Music

Last night was a phenomenal night that some of us Pearls were able to participate in. We waited in line, in the evening chill, for the opportunity to witness one of Hip Hop's greatest... Lecrae!!!

Now, I realize that many Hip Hop enthusiasts might disagree with me... "Lecrae... who is that"? They might say. "Jay-Z is the greatest. Tupac is the greatest. Lil Wayne is the greatest. Biggie is the greatest", they might argue. But I'm not calling Lecrae one of the greatest in comparison to the standards of our culture and their criteria. I'm calling Lecrae one of the greatest because He is LIVING for the greatest Man alive... Jesus Christ!!!

Lecrae is a music artist that is not ashamed of his faith in Jesus. He lives his life beyond the lyrics in his songs. He doesn't just rap about Jesus, he's preaching, encouraging and setting a Godly example for the masses, to the glory of Christ! He has found success in both Christian and secular arenas, boldly sharing his testimony and living a life that is set apart from his Hip Hop colleagues. His music pumps the message of grace, salvation, struggles with sin and hope in Jesus, while still being relevant to our generation and reaching a mainstream audience.
According to the Billboards, he’s sold 1.4 million albums and 2.9 million track downloads. His latest album, “Anomaly”, hit Billboard’s No. 1 this year. This is such an accomplishment and a first for Christian rap. His is also an emerging actor in the movie, “Believe Me,” a film about a group of four men who try to con money out of churchgoers.
The New York Times had positive reviews to share on the movie!

Being in the stadium with my husband and my friends, surrounded by so many people who love and respect his music, was an amazing experience and opportunity. It made me wonder to myself, "what influence are we having on the world around us"? No, we are not all music recording stars, or actors, or models, or individuals with fame, but we are all in the lime light. We are all on a stage for the Lord... so what are people seeing? I hope, when they are looking at you and me, they are seeing a city on a hill! I hope, as Lecrae put it in his song, "Tell the World", that we are walking, living and breathing billiards for Christ:

"Now I'mma tell the world, tell em
I'mma tell it everywhere I go
Tell the world, tell em
Yea I'm a billboard...
I'm brand new"

Live a life beyond the music! Let's stands out for Christ!!!
